$100K Aussie Millions Win for The Professor
Now that the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is putting away their chips for the next year, all eyes and high stakes tournament pros are heading to the Aussie Millions. Located again at the Crown Casino, they have been running preliminary events for the past week including one who's prize pool almost dwarfed the main event that started yesterday.
The $100,000 buy in wasn't for the $3 internet qualifers, only top pros and people who spend $2,500 on a bacon and cheese omelets forked over the cash for this one. With 25 runners, it created a winning pay day of $1.25 million Aussie bucks (Gus Hanson got $1.5 million from winning the $10,000 buy in main event last year).
With the elite field as reported by PokerNews.com:
The biggest names in poker took their seats around three tables as the largest-buyin event of the 2008 Aussie Millions kicked off, the $100,000 No-Limit Hold'Em event. Last year's winner, Erick Lindgren, joined 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Gus Hansen, multiple WSOP bracelet holders Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel, and a host of other poker Superstars including Tony G, Howard Lederer, 2000 World Champion Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson and Masaaki Kagawa. The online superstars were thick in the field as well, with Michael 'Timex' McDonald, Tom 'durrr' Dwan and Jeff 'ActionJeff' Garza among those on hand.
Howard "The Professor" Lederer walked with a nice looking trophy and a nicer first prize check. Lederer defeated Mark Teltscher heads up while calling down with AJo and catching an ace and a Jack on the river to overcome Teltscher's flopped two pair sending Teltscher off with a runner up check worth $650,000.
