FTOPS V First Event In the Books

The Full Tilt Online Poker Series number five officially kicked off last night. Full Tilt Team Member Phil Gordon of World Series of Poker reporting and World Poker Tour event winner fame hosted the evening.

The No-Limit Hold Em' affair had a guarantee of $500,000 prize pool, but the that amount was promptly trampled on by the 4,165 that ponyed up the $216 for the $147,099 first place prize and a cool golden football player avatar to intimidate those $.25/$.50 players.

"Kadabra" walked away from the massive field with the first FTOPS V win after pushing his top pair versus Jezzy888's middle pair and the hand held up for the victory.

FTOPS V kicked off Wednesday night with the $500K No-Limit Hold 'em tournament, hosted by Team Full Tilt member Phil Gordon. The first event saw an incredible 4,165 entrants, and with a buy-in of $200 + $16, the total prize pool ballooned to $833,000.

First-place finisher "Kadabra" earned $147,099 when he eliminated the "The_Closer3" and "Jeezy888" over only three hands to take home the title. "Kadabra" used some well-timed aggression as the final table wore on and often chatted with the railbirds. During the final break, "Kadabra" elected not to use the "I'm Ready" button, saying that he wanted to enjoy his moment in the spotlight.

Even before the final table there was some amazing poker. "chipgoon," who finished in sixth place for over $25K built his chips by making some solid reads and tough calls. With four diamonds on the board, "chipgoon" nearly doubled his stack by calling with only the five of diamonds in his hand, to the delight of the railbirds. "CookNbyTheBook" used aggressive tactics when the field got down to 30 players, often coming over the top of his opponents, and earning $5,872 for his 13th place finish.

"aerospace" was the first player eliminated from the final table when he found his KJ in rough shape against "Kadabra's" AJ, and could not improve. "FatMoneyBags" was the next player to go, also losing with AJ against "scarr09's" A10 when two 10's came on the flop... (continued at Full Tilt.com)
