Going South for Omaha
The home game. It is where the weekend warriors of poker are born and bred and if he/she succeed in taking down their neighbor/co-worker/friend enough they move on to the casino game or maybe even the World Series of Poker. I recently took a trip through the beautiful countryside of South Carolina to join up with some internet scribes in a friendly home game.
Granted this one was larger then the $5 pushfest games my close friends usually take part in, but I was in it for two reasons: Fun and more fun
The chatter around the table, the prop bets on the musical selections coming up on Classical Rock (note to all future bettors, do not select KISS), and of course a little $1/$2 poker to keep my card as a poker blogger current. The rotation of NLHE, Pot Limit Omaha, and Pot Limit Omaha Eight-or-Better meant I had a 2/3rd shot had coming away with a profitable night. I'd give away money during the two card bingo round only to rake the chips back in with a few value bets when Omadraw came around.
While I won't state the amount I took back to the frozen north, this author does not get to play live poker very often and can see the addiction toward riffling chips versus the virtual ones I battle with on a nightly basis. It's not just the money involved but the conversations with those you are trying to extract that extra $50 out of while hitting a nut flush.
