Isaac Baron Closes In On CardPlayer POY Title

Cardplayer.com is finalizing their Players of the Year awards. One for offline players commonly known as "live" players that actually do things like touch chips and fling that 92o back to the dealer after deciding the guy in the five seat isn't going to fold anytime soon. The other is the Online Player of the Year, and the race is on as the two top spots are neck and neck going down to the final week.

Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron and Matt "ch0ppy" Kay are currently just 26 points within each other for the title as only tournaments with a $100,000 prize pool and above are considered for the point totals. Recently Baron took down a $200 rebuy at PokerStars to vault into the temporary lead with just a few days and big enough tournaments left in the online schedule to count towards this title.

Baron's lead is, indeed, rather tenuous, as he has 8,304 points compared to Kay's 8,278 points. That's a difference of just 26 points with only four more days of tournaments left to earn points for the 2007 title. Almost any OPOY-qualified finish would vault Kay back into the lead. Baron missed solidifying his lead by just $400 on Wednesday when he won a $100 rebuy tournament on PokerStars with a prize pool of $99,600. If that prize pool had reached $100,000, the tounament would have qualified for OPOY points and he would have earned 240 points, making it much less likely that Kay could easily catch up before the year's end.
