The Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey has earned the respect of many poker players for its massive, and elegant poker room. With a couple of stops here for the World Poker Tour the Borgata will continue to pack the pros in for their main events.
Borgata Winter Poker Open started with 569 runners chasing a $1.6 million dollar first prize. John Hennigan walked away with 1st prize yesterday as an odd final hand determined the winner. Bluff magazine was on site for the play by play, and chronicaled a very interesting final hand as described below:
On the 28th hand of heads up play, Chuck Kelley raised to 550,000 from the button and John Hennigan made the call. The flop was 7-3-3 and Hennigan checked to Kelley, who bet 700,000. Hennigan called and the turn was an Ace. Kelley bet 700,000 again and Hennigan called the bet.
Then it happened. Chuck Kelley, for the second time in two days, showed his cards on the turn, mistakenly thinking the hand was over.
"Whoa whoa whoa," tournament director Tab Duchateau said as he tried to stop Kelley, but it was too late.
Kelley's Q-7 was sitting face up on the table for everyone, including John Hennigan, to see. Duchateau ruled that Kelley would be given a warning and the the hand would remain live.
The river card was another 3, giving Kelley a full house, threes full of sevens. It was up to Hennigan to act first, and knowing that Kelley had just made a full house, Hennigan moved all in.
Kelley thought for about 10 seconds and decided that Hennigan was bluffing. He made the call and Hennigan stood up, turned over A-5 for a better full house, and shook Kelley's hand.
