I was checking out the conclusion of the World Poker Tour's WPT Championship this morning, and instead got the final update of a women's tournament. Not that this blogger has anything against ladies exclusive poker tourneys but there hasn't been any notices on the WPT web site until yesterday's live blog that there was one going on!

While I'm trying to figure out the possible correlation to this Nancy Todd (political activist), Nancy Todd Tyner is your WPT Ladies Champion after defeating a very tough vanessa Selbst, who isn't new to the poker tourney circuit. She managed two final tables at the World Series of Poker last year, bringing her total to three final tables in two years when she took 7th in event #6 of the WSOP in 2006.

From the WPT live blog here's the final hand call that awarded Nancy Todd Tyner the first place prize:

Hand #126 - Vanessa Selbst has the button, she moves all in for 111,000, and Tyner calls with AhKd. Selbst shows As2h, and she's dominated as she faces elimination. Selbst was able to come back in a situation like this earlier; could she do it again?

The flop comes 5d3d3h, and the crowd gasps as Selbst picks up a gutshot straight draw. The turn card is the Qh, and Selbst needs a queen, a four, or a deuce on the river to stay alive.

The river card is the 8h, and Nancy Todd Tyner wins the pot - and the tournament - with her king kicker.

Vanessa Selbst finishes in second place, earning $40,815.

Nancy Todd Tyner wins the inaugural WPT Ladies Championship, earning $68,640, a WPT bracelet, and a Bellagio bracelet.
