Omaha 8 or Bust

Filed in archive Internet Poker on January 2, 2007

Many many years ago (ok actually only two) a friend of mine introduced me to a poker variation that would ring names like Ray Zee, Lou Krieger, and Wintermute. The basics of Omaha Eight or Better are quite simple just like Hold Em', draw to the nuts, bet, then win.

Really easy eh?

But this little split pot game is normally found in the quiet corner of a cardroom, with half its players sucking bottled air and Jim Beam on the rocks. Yeah, the game isn't flashy as watching no limit hold em' on high stakes poker with bricks of cash being thrown around like the players were buying Park Place and a few hotels.

Omaha Eight or Better in its basic form is drawing to the nuts, getting the nuts, and trying to get paid off by a second best hand. Throughout my new spread here, I'll be posting about this game at least once week since when I play online 90% of the time you'll find me playing the Pot Limit version of this game.

You'll also be introduced to the Drizz blow up, as PLO8 can carry some mean beats seen usually during a UFC match or couples working things out via Jerry Springer-style. I've stuck with the game for two years trying unsuccessfully to become a profitable limit player as well, but perhaps with my new gig comes new beginnings and a relatively nominal amount will be set aside to blossom a limit O8 bankroll as well, as I sincerely try to master all forms of my favorite poker game.

Thanks for dropping by, now here's an excellent source for those looking to get into Omaha Eight or Better... the 2+2 forums O8 Forums at Two plus Two. Granted it can be a little advanced for those starting out, but just read the "sticky" posts for new players to get a feel for the "snark" you may find.
