PPT To Begin Airing In July
Filed in archive Television and Radio on April 17, 2006
Bluff Magazine reports that the Professional Poker Tour will finally air on July 5th. The PPT, which began filming over a year ago and sparked a lawsuit between the World Poker Tour and the Travel Channel, will consist of 5 tournaments from season one filmed at various casinos in Connecticut, California, and nevada. The tournaments are invitation only, following a qualification system similar to that of the PGA, and will feature roughly 250 of poker's most notable players.
Between the World Poker Tour and the PPT Travel Channel viewers will now have 44 Wednesdays of first-run poker tournaments each year. This puts poker on par with the PGA in terms of television availability. Is the WPT overestimating demand here, or is this an idea whose time has come?
