Most online players pop on for a few hours to relieve the stress of a hard work day. Flinging some virtual chips across the felt in a Sit N Go' to pass the time until the cube calls them back. After all, on the internet you can play for micro stakes and not get laughed at by a floorsperson when requesting the timefor the next $2 + $.25 Pot Limit Omaha Eight or Better game to start.

But some players are grinding those single table tourneys with hopes to build a big enough bankroll to the size where the dollars/pounds/euros could mean a trip or maybe eating somewhere besides the golden arches.

Information is the key to success at any business venue, and if you're treating online poker as a business with cash flow, you'll find the information on just about any player out there if you know where to look. Sharkscope.com is such a site for a collaboration of poker data to find out if that player with the Geico gecko avatar really does have $50K in tournament wins, yet is playing a $5 SnG with you at 1am.

You can also look up recent streaks and total earnings to find out if that player is ripe for tilting off his/her chips or if you should avoid confrontation with them at all cost. Below is an introduction to the site, drop by to check it out with five free player queries (please don't laugh after looking up mine, I'm still trying to figure out how to be profitable at those types of tourneys).

SharkScope is the most complete database of online poker sit n' go tournament results available for the PokerStars, FullTilt, CryptoLogic, Ongame, Pacific, Party Poker, iPoker and Merge networks. Support for IPN and Cake is now in Beta test.

Analyze your statistics to find out where you make all your money or use our Tournament Selector to find the easiest tournaments on the internet.

  1. I have been using SharkScope for about a month now. I find it very useful to profile players during the early stages of a sit-and-go tournament. On Full Tilt (and I suspect other sites as well) you can color code your comments. For players with positive ROI in SharkScope, I mark them as green (good players). For those with negative ROI I mark as red. SharkScope also identifies the “fish”… players that meet certain losing criteria. I mark the fish in light blue.

Of course, historical data is just that… historical. But I have found that the losing players continue to play poorly and those that I mark green, the winning players, usually have a good hand when they go to the river. So using a tool like this to help identify the winning and losing players can help you better decide who to tangle with at the table.
