WSOP Bracelet Holder Arrested in Raid
Filed in archive Poker Laws on November 9, 2007
Maybe the old days of lawlessness and hush-hush big stakes home games aren't a thing of the past tales as the Texan road gamblers have brought out in their Memoirs like Doyle Brunson. Recently the poker world has been exposed to several poker operators getting their doors shuttered due to one of two things:
Cops or Robbers.
Recent robbing victims in New York City where the thieves managed to turn up the volume on just how dangerous these games could be without proper security, resulted in the death of a well-respected player in the NYC poker community.
On the other side of the ball, police have been picking up the pace on shutting down these games. Granted they are for the most part illegal for accepting a rake as part of the game (many states allow poker games as long as the "house" does not receive compensation for hosting or dealing the game). Unfortunately, your age once you reach adulthood immunes to the law, even if you're an 82 year old poker player.
Recently World Series of Poker bracelet holder Paul McKinney was arrested in Tennessee as part of a "gambling raid". The news station WAVY10 (hat tip to Wicked Chops ) initial report is a little light on the facts surrounding the arrest except McKinney apparently was the organizer of the event or game. Hopefully more fact about the arrest will come into light soon
